I headed back to Pisa. I had a one night stay at Hotel La Pace. I had an early night and a reasonable sleep (I woke up once and then drifted off again). After breakfast I booked a train ticket to Pisa using the Trenitalia app on my iPhone. I paid using apple pay and I stored the ticket in my Apple wallet.

My review of Hotel Airone was thus:

I chose a great place to stay for my first post-pandemic trip abroad

Liked · I had a comfortable and very relaxing stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was high quality. I used the spa twice; the pool was a bit small but it was good to get in there and enjoy the jacuzzi style bubbles. The sauna was good too. Pampering with sparkly wine is available, but that was not for me. The roof terrace was an excellent place to spend a relaxing hour in the sunshine. The hotel is just a short walk away from the historic centre of Grosseto. A wonderful experience!

 Disliked · I can't fault anything.

I had plenty of time to get to the station as I had a late morning train. I had a bottle of beer and a packet of crisps at a bar near to the station (Bar Vecchia Guardia). I then went to the station bar and had a slice of pizza, a beer and a cappuccino. On the train, I sat next to Selina Steele an Australian sport correspondent. The Pisa hotel was very close to the station. I dropped back bags and headed out into the street. I stopped at the same open-air café where I had pasta on my inbound journey a week ago. I chatted to two youngish girls from Lancashire. I walked up to the tower and bought two tea towels and a fridge magnet. On my journey to the tower I had spotted a decent bar so I called in there on the way back, had a couple of beers and some crisps and chatted to a young couple from Derby. My evening meal was a meal deal at a kebab house, a beer, some chips and a piadini kebab.
